The Samsung Jack showed up on our doorstep today, and it's quite the phone! At first glance, the device looks great. With design cues similar to the Propel Pro, the Jack sports a candybar form factor complete with a QWERTY keyboard, Windows Mobile 6.1, 256 MB RAM, 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, and video recording, among other features.
The screen is crisp, and colors look good. I was pleasantly surprised at how snappy the device was - gone are the days of the Windows Mobile lag that characterized earlier devices running the OS. Moving through the menu is easy, and the device offers a lot in terms of built-in programs - Office Mobile, Adobe Reader LE, and a neat little program called D-Day, which allows the user to initiate and store various countdown dates. Thanks to it, I know that my birthday is 55 days away, and the Palm Pre launches in 10 days. Definitely saves time; no more having to count down in your head (which, if you're like me, takes entirely too long).
The keyboard is comfortable, but small. As a user with larger fingers, I did find myself making an error every now and then - nothing major, though. Although a flash is missing from the Jack, the 3.2 megapixel camera took decent pictures when the light was right. Based on early testing, call quality seems to be decent - though there were some preliminary issues with speakerphone.
