Phone service & Customer service

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: B H on Tuesday, May 13, 2008
From: Dallas, TX (United States)
Experience: 10 Years
Pros: Great looking phones. The EnV is a cool device.

Cons: -Bad reception where other companies phones flourish.
-Customer service was unhelpful, rude and lied to me just to sell me a phone.

Summary: Unable to get service just 50 miles south of Abilene, I went to a Verizon store to discuss a fix.
The sales associate told me I needed to get an analogue phone to get service. Yet, since analogue was going away in the next couple of months I didn't need a two-year contract.
"Don't worry about it." he says. Just come in and we'll take care of it and you won't have to pay early termination, yadda yadda. I believed him, so I bought the phone AND another line to get service where I couldn't before.
I go in to terminate the service and change my plan and what happens? Since those terms weren't "In the Notes", they couldn't terminate the plan without an early termination fee.
The sales rep ALL but called me a liar and now I'm stuck with a phone line I don't use and their is "nothing" they can do.
Poor phone service, extremely poor customer service at the store level. I called into Customer service, explained my situation to the only nice guy that sounded like Fez from the 70's show and he went to talk to his manager. The verdict? they basically said it was my word against his...and I can understand that...if it were a COURT OF LAW. This is a multi-billion dollar franchise that takes a lying sales clerk's arrogant words over an honest customer trying to take the right steps to resolve an issue. I've had issues with their employees before at other stores, but I chalked it up as someone having a bad day; which is something I do as a person, yet shouldn't have to do as a customer in the first place. I was absolutely appalled by the lack of decency a person could have in this situation...and then have the COMPANY back that indecency up? Utterly amazing! I literally couldn't believe what had just transpired. I've been with them for almost 10 years! THAT was an ender!
I terminated my service...late fees and all.

Shooting the wrong party

Pros: Verizon is an excellent service provider

Summary: I have read most of the comments on this site. Most Cons deal with service reps and deal with malfuctions of the cell phone. Service providers don't make the cell phones and naturaly can't service or give warrantees on their performance. When you read the whining on cell phone (radio) performance it's not the service providers responsibility, it's the cell phone manufacturer. I.E. Motorola, Nokia, Samsung etc

Disappointing customer service

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: cindi boardman on Tuesday, March 04, 2008
From: laporte, IN (United States)
Experience: 10 Years
Pros: quick to answer phone

Cons: customer service does not fulfill promise to correct situations

Summary: My account was assessed an early cancellation fee in error, and withdrawn from my checking account. A "supervisor" guaranteed me he would refund the checking account and even verified bank information. Instead, as he promised would not happen, the verizon account was credited, not the dollars refunded. The "credit" will take 2 months to wash out...but the money was withdrawn from my checking account in error and available to them same day. After 10 years, I'm switching providers. Their mistake, their promise to correct and their failure for not fufilling their word. Not trustworthy enough for me. I can not allow a company to withdraw erroneous charges from my bank account and then not refund same. Their procedure should match their actions, especially when correct their error.

Great Everywhere But Here

Overall Rating:
2 out of 5

Pros: Never had a problem before moving to Fort Bragg

Cons: Service is horrible where I'm at now

Summary: I recommended Verizon to all my friends before a year ago when I moved to Fort Bragg. EVERYWHERE I went, I always had at least decent service sometimes in places where many of friends would get no reception. Since getting here though, my phone is basically worthless at work. I get service in one spot in my office. I will come in in the morning with a fully charged phone and it is dead by noon because it is searching for a signal the whole time. It's not my phone because it can go the whole weekend without going on the charger. I'm switching to AT&T in Sept when my contract expires just so I can get reception at work.

Pros: Great national service area. Customer service is above the norm.

Cons: Try to push unwanted services, but they all do.

Summary: Service is better than most. Got good help picking my second phone. Largest national area. Unless you want to go into the boonies you will have reception.

Experience: 3 Months
Pros: Awesome coverage area, fair prices

Cons: Crippling phones.

Summary: I signed up with Verizon on a 2yr in Oct 2007 with a Motorola w385. So far so good. I have no major complaints about VZW and so far Im happy. The fact that they remove certain features from phones is disconcerting, but really can't do anything.

Decent cell phone

Overall Rating:
3 out of 5

From: Elkton, MD (United States)
Experience: 5 Months
Pros: Good customer service, GET IT NOW, cell phones

Cons: Some dropped calls in rural areas, short battery times on phone

Summary: I have been with Verizon for close to 6 years and I have liked it since I got it. One of the better companies around. They're plans cost more, but to me it's worth it in the long run. I plan on staying with them when I renew my contract this summer. I don't see myself going to any of the other companies

The only phone to have.

Overall Rating:
4.3 out of 5

Pros: I have had Verizon longer than it has been Verizon. I have had the same phone # for going on 20 years. I was here when it was another company, before Verizon took over the company.

Cons: It has it ups and downs but over all is the best on to have.

Summary: Was with another company the first 2 years. When you needed help, they was never around. I moved to Verizon and will not change again.
Most of you don't know this, but years ago to call out of your area you had to call the tower in that area first. They gave you a list of phone numbers of all the towers in the USA. Then when you got the tower you could call the number you wanted.

A good experience.

Overall Rating:
3.7 out of 5
By: Cassidy Brunner on Sunday, January 27, 2008
From: Madison, WI (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: Helpful customer service and very reliable phone.

Cons: Verizon blocks a lot of the Razr's features (transferring photos to/from your phone requires the purchase of separate software). Also, their plans are quite limited.

Summary: I bought a Motorola razr 3vm about 2 years ago through amazon.com and the phone is great. The only problem I've had in that time was a sudden loss of service, but a quick call to Verizon customer service informed me that a simple restart was all that was needed (I had almost never turned it off before then and apparently that can lead to an unhappy phone). Now keeping in mind that this was my only contact with customer service over the phone (I guess that's a good thing), I found them friendly and helpful. I wasn't overly impressed with the service in the store.

The reception isn't as reliable as my previous phone/carrier (Virgin Mobile), but it's never been a problem. Some of my calls are dropped and reception can definitely cut out, but it's usually in an area that I'd expect it (basement of a 7 story building, ect). Unfortunately, this carrier is no longer the best deal for me (my friends have switched to US Cellular - making the verizon's IN feature pointless), but I would have liked to stay with Verizon had they offered a more flexible plan menu. Overall, this has been a positive experience.

Finally giving up on Verizon

Overall Rating:
2 out of 5
By: Debbie Anderson on Wednesday, January 23, 2008
From: Phoenix, AZ (United States)
Experience: 7 Years
Pros: Good reception on phone in the mountains where our cabin is.

Cons: Terrible customer service

Summary: After being with Verizon for seven years I'm giving up on them. Customer service is rotten. You can change your plan whenever you want but the twist is they always screw up somehow on what you tell them. I've spent countless hours trying to straighten out my bill with them. The last straw was when they cut off my service after seven years with the company because I was late paying a bill because my on-line account was messed up. They gave me a help desk number and told me it would be a few days and I could pay then. Next thing I know there is no service on my phone. When I called them AGAIN was told they couldn't help me and would transfer me to the right people, they transferred me to the wrong department and after explaining my situation AGAIN, put me on hold to supposedly get me to the right department, after six minutes on hold, I'm done with this same thing over and over. So long Verizon!
