Smith on Tuesday, September 09, 2008From: Manhattan, KS (United States) Experience: 15 Months Pros: Great texting, very sharp picture quality, sleek, pretty easy to use, big screenCons: Charging sucks after a while, bluetooth is worthless, paint chips terribly, and glitches liek none other.Summary: I've about had it with this phone. i've had mine about 15 months now and at about 13 i couldnt charge it anymore, like the first reviewer said. I dont know why, but it just stopped charging and then i got it replaced, but my provider put in a used charging jack. so now, two months later its unbearable again. the past three days i have been working hard to get the cord jack (what you plug into the phone) at just the PERFECT spot in the phone so that it'll charge. i have to hold it sideways with downwards pressure on the cord for it to charge. Terrible. On top of that, the phone glitches pretty badly and the paint is almost all gone. I can't get cool ringtones frmo my friends cause bluetooth doesnt work. overall- sh!tphone. I hate this phone with a passionOverall Rating: By: Joe Smochu on Sunday, April 13, 2008From: Puuptown, NC (United States) Experience: 4 Months Pros: Sleek Cool Menus Good calling quality (but starts to get worse over time) Decent Battery LifeCons: I have had to infringe on this phone's warrenty two times! I became so fend up with it that I made my provider give me a new one!Summary: This phone stinks! When you first get it you love it, it is so cool, the wow factor is nice, and you got a music player! Great menus and ok when it comes to texting! But, after have this phone two times I have gotten two broken phones right after the other! The first time, my phone came with a broken hing and over time of me charging my phone it stopped working! I couldn't charge it anymore! I don't know what happened it just stoped charging at night! So I went back and got a refirbushed phone because by that time the phone was discontinued! But soon after getting the refurbished phone I started to notice little glitches! Like my phone would randomly shut down in the middle of a text! I would be typing this extremly long message to someone and all of a sudden my phone would shut down and restart! It was extremly annoying! Then I noticed the call quality started to go down hill, I fell like I was in the Grand Canyon when talking to someone! I could here what I was saying and I could hear what they were saying, but with an echo! Not to mention, the phone is febile! I live down south were the area is kinda dry and weekend I went up to Chicago during one of its humid days and my phone formed a moisture buble! So I told my parents about it and they told me to put the screen out into the sun and let it evaportate! Well I did and guess what the bubble did evaporate, but instead of a mositure bubble there was now an air bubble! I is now sealed there and there is a big swirl of colors in my screen that is as annoying as crap! Lastly, if you are a big texter do not get this phone! If you have seen this phone in person you should notice that it doesn't have keys but this "skin" which you might think is great because then teacher or whomever won't be able to hear you texting! Yea this is true, but that skin, over time, will start to lift up from the glue that holds it down releasing and I have seen friends who have this phone with the skin on thier phone completely gone! They have to dail by guessing (even though most people do know which numbers are which)! Seriously, take me heed do not buy this phone is you are hard on electronics (not abbusive)! I would recommend a Samsung! LGs SuX! btw... this phone (for me) usually only takes 4 months to start to break! 2 out of 3 people found this review helpful Not that greatOverall Rating: By: Christy Douglas on Monday, February 25, 2008From: Goodlettsville , TN (United States) Experience: 1 Years Pros: Neat phone with alot of features. Cons: Reception not that great and phone shuts off in middle of converstations for no reason.Summary: I got this phone when it had just came out through Verizon. It is a neat phone, if you can figure out how everything works. I don't have much tech smarts, so I don't use alot of the features. It is thin, but wide and long. I've had problems with mine shutting off for no reason. I am going to take it back and have them exchange it for a new one. The battery life doesn't last very long either. I've also not had very good reception with it. My Mom has a small and more simple phone and hers picks up way better than this LG8600 does. Also, the speaker phone is not very loud at all. Overall opinion: I wouldn't buy it again. 7 out of 13 people found this review helpful I have never loved a phone like I love this one....Overall Rating: By: Sharon Atkinson on Saturday, November 24, 2007From: Hubert , NC (United States) Experience: 5 Months Pros: easy fast texting, great picture capabilities, slim design, sometimes I forget I have it in my pocket, variety of colors, quick charging, long lasting battery, MP3 player (my favorite CD's go with me whereever I go) easy navigation (I only read the manual to find out how to download MP3's on it) Cons: Ringers aren't loud enough (I wouldn't use the alarm clock to save my life)... and there is no flash on the camera (but I've taken pictures in even the darkest places with the night mode and can still see everything...)Summary: I've been through about twenty cell phones in the past 10 years, I'm usually reckless with them. I've lost them to leaving them on the roof of cars, drowning them in the toilet, I've snapped the head off of one of my flip phones, just plain loosing them. My LG VX-8600 will never be a victim to any of these unfortunate events... I could be drowning at sea somewhere and I would be treading water with one hand and holding my phone up to save it from the water with the other... I'm serious. I've had it for about five months now. It is recently showing signs of wear and tear, but it's only left my side maybe twice in those months. I fell asleep with the MP3 player going once for about 7 hours and when I woke up not only was it still playing but it had over half the battery power left. It holds up to 100 texts in the inbox, for those of us who don't like to delete, and I have over 70 songs downloaded onto my SD card, so 70 of my favorite songs are with me at all times. I've watched TV on it, the visual is great. I am on my yahoo messenger on it. And if that's not enough proof that this is a great phone, I usually don't do product reviews for anything, but I stumbled accross this page, looking for an icon guide to find out what my son turned on and had to fill this out. This phone will be cherished!!! Hey never mind about that... I just found the icon guide on the phone... now I really don't have to find that manual!!! Yippeee!! 12 out of 25 people found this review helpful LG VX-8600 AWESOME!!!Overall Rating: By: Bill Casney on Thursday, August 23, 2007From: Redhills, AR (United States) Experience: 5 Months Pros: Very Stylish, Takes Great Pictures, Bright Display, Battery Life Is AMAZING!, Charges Quick, Great Recemption, Sends TXT and PIX Messages Very Quick, Great Voice Quality, Very Durable Cons: Flat Keyboard Makes It Hard To Type Text Messages, Pathetic Speaker PhoneSummary: I've Been Using This Phone For 5 Months Now And I Am Truly Impressed! I've Had Other LGs That Are Great But This One Is Byfar The Best One Yet. I've heard People Say The Battery Life Is Bad, But Its Not True The Battery Lasts A long Time! Not So Great For Texters But Overall Its A Great Phone. Its Also Paired Perfectly With The Verizon Network! 15 out of 26 people found this review helpful Undecided...Overall Rating: By: Leann Yount on Tuesday, July 17, 2007From: Olympia, WA (United States) Experience: 4 Months Pros: Thin, lightweight, looks nice, large display, email video option, red lights on the front, durableCons: Poor reception, finger/makeup smudges, flat keys/hard to text message, don't like the flip button for charging - hard to open, I have to use a knife everytime, ring volume is not very loud and the ring tones selection is minimal, speaker phone not very loud or clear, buttons on the side are not user friendly, if you text message and talk on it a lot, the battery will die on the second day without charging it, also when the battery does die, there is about a 10 second warning sound and about the Summary: I am undecided about this phone. I have only had it for four months and I am considering either buyin a new phone or going back to my old LG phone. I bought this phone because my best friend has one and had it for six months before I got mine and liked it. When we talk to each other, we either get dropped, she can hear me and I can't hear her, or it breaks up a lot. That is very annoying! I like the looks of the phone, but it's kind of nice to be able to have a conversation without interuptions... that's what kids are for! :) I am undecided if I would recommend this phone to somebody or not... 16 out of 34 people found this review helpful Fantastic phone, unreliable bluetooth.Overall Rating: By: S C on Tuesday, April 24, 2007From: Bremerton, WA (United States) Experience: 5 Months Pros: Lots of features - especially the excellent display.Cons: Only average sound quality.Summary: I bought this phone because I wanted something Razor-like with a large display. I've had good luck with LG and don't care for the feel of Motorolas. The phone's sound quality is okay, but not great. I immediately bought a Jabra bluetooth headset. The Jabra was horrible, so I returned it. I tried some other units until I finally bought a Plantronics Voyager 510 headset based on its excellent reviews. The Plantronics sounds WAY better than the handset on BOTH ends. I can hear and be heard much, much better on the headset than on the handset. It's a great unit, which demonstrates how mediocre the phone's sound quality is. The problem: The bluetooth failed on my first VX-8600 phone. Verizon replaced the phone for free and it's been working great for months until just this week. Now the headset randomly disconnects, and refuses to reconnect unless the phone is rebooted. A half-dozen times every day is too often to contend with this problem. I *think* both phones experienced bluetooth issues after being dropped (on a carpeted floor), but that may be unrelated. When working correctly, the phone is very quick to enable or disable the bluetooth. Once the problem arises, it will take a couple of minutes to perform these functions. (And no, restarting just the bluetooth does not work to reestablish the connection, nor does rebooting the headset.) Also, I think LG dropped the ball when they designed the charging/data jack. It's hard to use and will fail if you're not gentle with it. It's livable, but it's hard to imagine that's the best design they could come up with. What's wrong with a round jack? I'm happy with everything else on the phone. Ultimately, the bluetooth may require frequent warranty replacements. I like the phone enough that I'll simply keep getting a replacement when the bluetooth quits. 23 out of 38 people found this review helpful Slick phone, but where is the battery life improvement?Overall Rating: By: Robert H. Goretsky on Sunday, April 22, 2007From: Hoboken, NJ (United States) Experience: 90 Days Pros: Small size, durability, bluetoothCons: Battery lifeSummary: I've been a long-time Verizon customer (since the days of 15-minutes-per-month plans and phones that didn't come close to fitting in your pocket), so I've unfortunately been at the whim of Verizon's less-than-stellar selection of phones. I started off with a few Motorolas, but once I got the LG VX6000, I was hooked on the LG quality, styling, and durability (I drop my phones - a lot!). In moving forward from the Motorola to the VX6000, and then the VX6000 to the VX8000, I consistently noticed my battery life doubling, at the very least. Whereas older phones needed to be constantly charged, I found that by the time I was on the VX8000, I could go several days without charging the phone, even while using a few hours of talk time. So, when I stepped up to the VX8600, I was expecting the same improvement. This time, I was proven wrong. Battery life has actually worsened! The most irritating issue that I have found with the VX8600 is how quickly it goes from "3 bars" of battery to dead, even without using any talk time. For an LG veteran, I found this surprising, as I usually didn't even worry about charging my phone until it was down to that last bar. With this phone, after even two hours of talking, you're down to 2 bars of battery. That 2 bars of battery would have lasted a few days on standby with older LG's. Now, I'm lucky if I make it through a day without my phone turning off on me. Battery irritation aside (and as I've been told by friends who work in the cell phone business, you don't buy a small flip phone if you're concerned about battery life), everything else about this phone is great. It is by far the most stylish phone I've ever seen from Verizon. It's sturdier than the RAZR's, as evidenced by my scientific research (ok, fine, I may have dropped this phone three or four times already, and have had no issues.) This is also the first Verizon phone I've seen that did not have the Bluetooth functionality crippled. What this means is that you can download the BitPim software from http://www.bitpim.org/ and, if your PC or laptop is Bluetooth enabled, you can transfer your contacts (and possibly your photos and videos, though I have yet to test this) all wirelessly. So, when you experience that fateful phone-drop into a puddle, at least you don't lose your contacts.. Call quality has been excellent, and the camera is acceptable, although newer phones tend to sport resolutions greater than the 1.3 megapixels that this phone offers. Overall, I'm quite happy with this phone - just make sure to keep it charged! Robert H. Goretsky Hoboken, NJ 21 out of 41 people found this review helpful Great phone with a downsideOverall Rating: By: Michelle Davis on Monday, March 12, 2007From: Katy, TX (United States) Experience: 3 Months Pros: its small, easy to use, big displayCons: the speaker phone is useless, backlight doesn't stay on long enoughSummary: i have always had a Motorola so this is my first LG, i have had it since december and i love it... great phone only found 2 cons otherwise i have no problems whatso ever... i have dropped it a couple of times and no problems.... all in all great phone. 35 out of 51 people found this review helpful Looks Cool but too many Problems !Overall Rating: By: A Z on Friday, March 09, 2007From: San Francisco, CA (United States) Experience: 1 Months Pros: Slim Design Smooth surface light weight Graphic ok Cons: So so reception Little ring tones (you'll have to buy more) low volume speakers poor games hard to use menu annoying keypad Terrible reception when calling another mobile (you can call through, but can't hear a thing) Hard to use side buttons Very little options Boring No memory card (so I have to text all the phone numbers in again) No speaker for MP3 Soft ringer tone Not acurate voice recognition Summary: Don't get me wrong I like how this phone looks and feel, and I've waited a long time to get this phone. I fell in love with this phone when I first got it. It is hot, all my friends want one. The bad part is that, I'm sick of the problems of misdialing, poor receptions, and other things I've listed. After two weeks, technical problems started to arise. People told me they couldn't hear a word from me from time to time, mostly happens when I call other mobile phones, which is strange. I have to take this phone back for a exchange. Then when I try my 2nd phone, it has the same problem again. I'm going back tomorrow to get another exchange. If this time doesn't work I'm going to get my wife's Samsung phone. Her phone didn't look as good as mine, but it's really fun and easy to use. It is loud enough to hear while in public and in a moving car, great reception, and lot more options than this. I've learned my lesson.... 21 out of 38 people found this review helpful LOVE ITOverall Rating: By: Jennifer Sopchack on Wednesday, December 13, 2006From: pittsburgh, PA (United States) Experience: 26 Days Pros: BLUETOOTH-can't live without it now MP3- the speakers are freaking awesome on this ultraslim phone V-cast is pretty cool for those who are interested in such a thing internal antenna makes the phone fit better in any pocket or purse I just really like this phone, I got it for my NE2 and I had been coming from a decently reliable Samsung A670 so I expected this new phone to perform as well as my old one had. on my old phone there was video capability but you couldn't send, on the 8600Cons: no flash on camera, lighting situations have to be just right, i'm a dork about it, but there are no frames or color effects for the pictures too which was a feature of my old phone the only other problem i've had is with the bluetooth and i'm convinced that the disconnecting of the headset has to do with the cheap headset that i bought. if you are going to do the bluetooth, it's worth it to actually spend money for a good one. Summary: All in all, I love this phone. I know that I'm probably going to use this phone for the next two years and i wanted something that would last and I'm sure that i've found it. 24 out of 50 people found this review helpful Love it!Overall Rating: By: A M on Monday, December 04, 2006From: C, OR (United States) Experience: 14 Days Pros: Looks really nice, especially the black. Takes good pictures and videos. I personally like the flat keys, and especially the touch music player on the front.Cons: Fingerprints show up really bad! I don't feel like my speakerphone turns up really loud, but everything else about this phone has great volume!Summary: I love this phone and knew the second I saw it that I would get it, and I haven't been disappointed. If the finger smudges will bother you, then I don't recommend this phone, you'll hate it! 38 out of 60 people found this review helpful |
