Pre Watch: Old Palm Pre sorta-unboxing video hits Web

This "Palm WebOS Box" video just hit the blog circuit. It's sort of a Pre unboxing, except everyone's pretty convinced that it was shot back in January at CES. So who knows if what's depicted here will be the actual retail packaging when Pre ships later this year? Ah, well, enjoy the show anyway.

Palm Pre Review: A keg of potential, a pint of right-now

Palm Pre Review: A keg of potential, a pint of right-now

Clearly the onslaught of high-profile handset launches already foisted upon us this month has made me want a beer. But I stand by my metaphor: Palm's comeback device, the Pre smartphone represents not only one of the best high-end handsets currently available on the US market, but also a boatload of potential for the future of the onetime King of the PDAs and the mobile device market as a whole. Is Pre, v1.0, the best mobile phone ever? ...
Get ready to root your Pre

Get ready to root your Pre

... That is, if you can afford it. Maybe I shouldn't have tagged this post, "Palm Pre Launch Coverage," but it's not too far removed. On June 9th, PreCentral.net announced that the webOS Reset Doctor was leaked - including root image. So, what does that mean? It means that before long, hackers will be providing access to otherwise hidden gems - at least to those willing to risk their handset for some inside knowledge. That PC post points out...

Palm Pre: The good, the bad, and the ugly

Four full days with a Palm Pre review loaner.  First was pick up and get to know you Friday.  Then came mess around with it all weekend Saturday and Sunday.  And then the first stress test: Use it all day while covering a press event Monday. So what have I learned in my time with Palm and Sprint's new flagship smartphone?  I'll break it into three categories.  And maybe Aaron, Becca, and/or Tom (all of whom are playing...
Comprehensive Review: Palm Pre

Comprehensive Review: Palm Pre

Introduction: To put it as simply as I can, Palm is back in the game.  The Palm Pre is a revolutionary device that marks a radical shift for the company, and provides a much needed exclusive device for Sprint. The new webOS platform, combined with a change in hardware, offers a completely new experience from inside and out, and furthermore, represents the first serious competitor to the Apple iPhone.  For those that prefer touchscreen...

Palm and Sprint downplaying initial success of the Palm Pre?

So, we're not entirely sure what happened between late May and now (minus the influx of press surrounding AT&T and Verizon obtaining the device next year), but Sprint and Palm seem to be reversing their strategy and downplaying the success of the Palm Pre at launch by telling customers not to expect lengthy lines on Saturday morning.  Palm spokeswoman Lynn Fox encouraged customers to equate success with time and not with the picture of...

Sprint store sells Palm Pre Touchstone early

Though it looks kind of funny without the actual Palm Pre attached to it, it's nice to see that the accessories are being sold ahead of the official launch day.  Apparently, an associate at the Sprint store in Matthews, NC decided to sell the Touchstone charger and included back ahead of schedule - and for $50, to boot ($20 off of its regular price).  According to reports, the customer was given an incorrect price, and upon visiting...

Best Buy employee leaks Palm Pre stock levels

We'll admit, we were wondering how the Palm Pre stock levels were going to look at Best Buy stores around the nation, primarily due to the rampant rumors about short-term supply shortages.  An equally inquisitive employee posting on EverythingPre's forums has leaked several screenshots of estimated inventory levels across the nation - some good, some bad.  Stores in North Carolina, Florida, and Texas seem to be well-off, while others in...

the pre looks so awesome

Re: Re: precentral.net: Palm Pre Review

there is the beginning on the jailbroken palm pre if thats what you would call it. People have been adding programs to the pre that allow it to have more customization options and even a virtual keyboard. So as of right now the pre has some catching up to do if it wants to be as big as the iPhone, but with all that it can do that the iPhone cant it will soon be one of the have to own devices.

Re: Palm Pre

I have yet to ever even hold a working palm pre (just plastic display) but I would also say that the phone was made a little cheaply. When you watch a video of someone unboxing or reviewing you cannot help but notice the no-so-smooth surface of the Pre´. One thing that I would like to know is what the screen is made of. From what I have seen the screen and whole front face of the phone ar made of a plastic. I would really like to know what it defiantly is (glass or plastic).

All in all nice review, you hit it right on the spot and I while reading your review, I found my self thinking,"this must be a one hell of a phone!"

Re: Re: Palm Pre

ya tqake it back some pre batteries are smaller and the have play when slide open which causes the phone to power on then off. you can always use a spacer too.

Re: Re: Palm Pre

Re: Palm Pre Review: A keg of potential, a pint of right-now

30/mo x 24 months = 720, not 1000$+ in savings. Still a good chunk of savings.

Re: Palm Pre

I just ordered mine yesterday...

Cant wait to see how great it is!

Re: Re: Palm Pre

What are you talking about?! The pre offers something that neither the iphone, touch pro 2, or htc hero do.....TRUE MULTITASKING! Talk about futuristic. And nobody said it was an iphone KILLER, just a competitor. That's just like an apple drone to make excuses for the lack of basic features like MMS. It took 3 years for the iphone to get video recording, sure the pre may not have it yet, but its been promised in the near future. Plus flash, yet another thing the cult of apple won't allow. So yea go ahead and try the pre out before you buy, and then think of how much it has already for a first gen device as compared to the 3 revisions apple has made to get to where the iphone is now.

Re: Palm Pre: The good, the bad, and the ugly

the palm pre sounds really kewl but im waiting for the eos to come out(if my parents werent so happy about their iphones then i would ask them when our contract ends to move to sprint) but its ok even though i like the pre better the eos looks kewl too i guess
