Palm webOSPalm introduced webOS as a new platform for their Palm Pre. One of the key features of the Palm webOS gives users the ability to type on the keyboard and instantly search for web queries, contacts, or apps. With the world of cellular advancing, Palm webOS should be able to excite every kind of cellular phone user. Seriously, who do they think they're going to reach with these ads? Does the art house crowd really bring in that much revenue for Palm? Fire the director and sell some phones already - WebOS is awesome, Pre is great, and both deserve a much better marketing campaign.Nerd Fight: New iTunes release kills Palm Pre syncingYou knew it wouldn't last. Apple has just issued an iTunes update that kills Palm Pre syncing capabilities. Palm had engineered some oh so clever programming that tricked iTunes into thinking Pre was an iPod, hence allowing Pre users to sync and manage their music sideloads via iTunes, just like iPhone/iPod users. Alas, Apple has said enough is enough via this little footnote in the iTunes 8.2.1 update: "addresses an issue with...precentral.net: Palm Pre Preferences Overviewprecentral.net, a powerhouse for covering everything Palm Pre, has received their Palm Pre early. Bucking the trend, Amazon has lowered the Pixi's older brother to $79.99 on a new two-year agreement (not to mention a waived activation fee, saving you $36). With the gap diminishing between the two webOS handsets, I imagine most will opt for the Pre due to the increase in processing power. Wasn't it Mick Jagger who once crooned, "You can't always get what you want / But if you make a mash-up you kinda can?" Something like that, anyway. I'm tired of "close but no cigar" when it comes to mobile phones. iPhone's great except for that closed OS and no hard keyboard. I ultimately shied away from making the Palm Pre my daily phone, however, because I didn't much like its form factor. I'm not a big fan of slider phones, instead preferring thinner candybar devices even if they wind up having a larger footprint. I also couldn't stand Pre's QWERTY board and took issue with sharp edges that bordered the keyboard tray (even though my colleagues still think I'm crazy for that one). But I loved...Palm releases webOS v1.3.1A day after the retail launch of the Palm Pixi, webOS 1.3.1 has officially launched. Despite iTunes sync being notoriously absent, the ability to forward SMS and instant messages, Yahoo! contact and calendar sync, Yahoo! IM, improved notifications for e-mails, custom ringtones for text messages, PIN lock timer, and various video changes make the 126 MB update worth downloading. The full change log can be viewed here (Bell users,...Walmart offering Palm Pixi for $30 onlineWith several smartphones at the $100 price point (iPhone 3G, Droid Eris, and BlackBerry Tour, just to name a few), one has to wonder if the Palm Pixi is going to be a smashing hit. Staying true to their "always low prices" moniker, Lets Talk, Walmart's online partner, is offering the Pixi for $30 (or in other words, roughly the price of a car charger at most retail stores). According to commenters over at Engadget Mobile, the $30...Ad blunder mentions Pixi’s Wifi (huh?)That little item underlined in red may have gotten some WebOS fans’ hopes up. (And it had some of us in the industry do a doubletake). That is, until someone at Sprint HQ noticed the colossal mistake of listing Wifi as a feature on the Pixi. Looks like the online ad’s been corrected now, but as far as I’m concerned, it still contains a gaffe: “Huge touchscreen”? Um, not exactly. Will the real Palm Pixi...A word of caution for iTunes-using Pre owners: Update 9.0.2 will break your syncThere’s a new iTunes update available. Among the things Version 9.0.2. brings, including support for its new AppleTV format, is an annoying new/old irritation for Palm users: The software breaks Palm Pre syncing for WebOS 1.2.1. (Yup, again.) Palm’s done everything short of stuffing the Pre inside an iPhone shell, to keep iTunes shaking hands with its flagship device. But at every turn, Apple’s there, heading it off at...Pre demoed on AT&T, nabs high rankings with PC WorldAt this point, the news of Pre arriving on Verizon’s network early next year has been well-circulated. Now, some WebOS fans are holding out hope for a U.S. GSM version for an American carrier — namely AT&T. AT&T? Since when has it been interested in WebOS?That’s a good question. All we know is that someone tipped off PreCentral that, at the Sprint Open Developers Conference today, Palm did a demo with a GSM handset...Palm Pixi to launch 11-15 for $100 (Sprint)Today, official word came in that Palm Pixi will be available on November 15, as an exclusive offering from — you guessed it — Sprint. Please respond!Cleanser managed to get it to call and text on Verizon, which is like having a Ferrari and taking it for a Sunday stroll at 25 mph. Don't bother. Either wait for it to go to Verizon (I'm currently a Verizon customer and leaving them because they are planning on crippling the Pre of all its good features) or switch to Sprint. If you're asking how they did it, you don't have the skill to do it yourself. Leave it to the hackers and developers.Re: NOAH -- Palm Pre on Verizon?? Please respond! That's awesome! Help!Palm Pre apps -- especially the CalculatorI'm excited about the Palm Pre with its new, Linux-based operating system. Many people feel that the Palm O/S is overdue for a facelift, but I wonder if the Pre will retain the high-quality Calculator app that users enjoy on the Treos and the Centro. That Calculator is multi-faceted and beautifully rendered. The calculator app provided on most other feature phones and smartphones is pretty basic . . . and not particularly appealing visually.Related CommentsRe: Palm Pixi (Sprint) - The Quick Reviewdo any one know how clear this problem Missing or invalid parameter(s)We are missing a required parameter in order to validate and load the game. some people can get in and some cant we all have the same computer Reply Re: Palm Pixi (Sprint) - The Quick ReviewDoes the Pixi actually have video capture or was that a mistake? I downloaded the Pre emulator and I've been playing with it for a week now. I'm hooked! I think the Pre and the Pixi are getting a bad rap because of the defaults for WebOS and the lack of official apps. What has convinced me to get a Pre is the addition of home brewed apps. There is a home brewed patch for video recording along with over 1000 applications, themes, and patches for the Pre and Pixi. Will you please play around with the Pre or Pixi with home brewed apps and do another review.
