Buyer beware - go without a phone before getting voip.com

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: aj cl on Friday, September 05, 2008
From: midwest, midwest (United States)
Experience: 28 Days
Pros: None

Cons: Everything

Summary: Former Sunrocket customer. VOIP would not let me cancel service without charges, even within 1st 30 days - and they had a call detail record stating a 600+ minute call, from MY cell phone - explain that one...

Buyer beware - worst customer service ever and shady billing practices at best

Great Price Poor Service

Overall Rating:
2.8 out of 5
By: Billy Dillard on Sunday, June 15, 2008
From: Chicago, Chicagoland Area (United States)
Experience: 12 Months
Pros: price, voice quality

Cons: customer service, voice mail doesn't work properly.

Summary: While I would love to write a glowing review about this company I just can't in good faith until they do a little more to bring their tech support, software, hardware, etc. more attention. I went with Voip.com after Sunrocket went bankrupt. Sunrocket was way more dependable. Since I have had Voip for nearly a year now I can tell you that voice quality is not bad. However, it does occasionally drop calls for no reason. On several occasions I have been unable to make or receive calls. There is virtually no customer service other than through an online forum. They do try to remedy problems that occur but I don't think they're working with a very large staff. Voice mail has never really worked properly. First of all it logs a message for every call that goes to voice mail, even those that hang up. Therefore when you go to review your messages you have to go through all the hang ups and delete them. The voice mail is sluggish and not as responsive as other voice mails. The phone rarely tells you if you have a message waiting. I am sure this feature was turned off because of complaints from people because of all the hang ups that were logged. What can I say, I guess you get what you pay for, which really is a lot for $200 a year.
However, I don't know that I'll be renewing my contract with this company this year as I haven't seen much improvement over the year.

Horrible!!! Disaster! They should be out of business! Beware!

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Steve Higgins on Tuesday, April 29, 2008
From: San Francisco, CA (United States)
Experience: 9 Months
Pros: None.

Cons: Frequent dropped calls, voice mail does work correctly, unable to answer incoming calls, inaccessable customer support.

Summary: My phone has never worked correctly for 9 months and I'm unable to cancel my service because there is no possible way to reach a live VOIP person to talk to! They have created a business model where you are unable to talk to any technical person --- only by emailing back and forth via their forum. That might work if you have days and days to go back and forth, and if your problem falls into one of the "canned" solutions that they've defined. I would never do business with this company even if they tried to give it to me free! They should not be in business and I'm angry that they collected my $198 up front and don't live up to their service that they advertise. Stay far away from this company. You've now been warned!

Good VOiP Option

Overall Rating:
3.8 out of 5
By: Erik S. on Tuesday, January 15, 2008
From: Upstate, NY (United States)
Experience: 6 Months
Pros: Voice quality, features, account management via website, and price

Cons: Customer service

Summary: Switched to VOiP.com after the Sunrocket meltdown. It took a while to transfer my number, but once it was released VOiP.com had us going right away. Voice quality has been good overall, and I can even use my line to fax. Quality ups and downs have been almost entirely directly attributable to my cable internet provider (Roadrunner via Time Warner) who has had numerous jitter, delay and QOS issues along with many disrupted service incidents.

VOiP.com's phone adapter is excellent quality equipment and came with very clear and precise directions as to its installation. Everything was color coded on the gear, and the diagrams matched up exactly; well thought out. The shipment arrived right when they said it would.

VOiP.com's account features are excellent and can be managed easily via their web site which is well designed. Voicemail options can also be accessed through the voicemail interactive menu after calling into the system for messages. Their voicemail system can also cause your phone's Message Waiting light to blink if your phone has that feature, a fact that they don't publicize for some reason.

The only real disappointment about VOiP.com is that their technical support is difficult to access. They provide some extensive FAQ's, but going beyond that level and getting to a human is difficult. Fortunately, once my equipment was installed there wasn't much to ask about except when my old number was going to be transferred.

Overall I'd recommend their service. The price is right and the quality is good. Just be ready to grind it out if you need technical support.

Horrible

Overall Rating:
1.4 out of 5
By: M G on Friday, November 02, 2007
From: Indianapolis, IN (United States)
Experience: 7 Weeks
Pros: None!

Cons: Hold times, exceed 30 minutes.

Customer service is of NO help, even when they try.

Are not 'allowed' to talk to Tech support, must use their forum....

are now only giving adaptors and must purchase your own router...

echo in the phone line

sometimes calls break up, as if on a bad cell connection.

can't use Internet and phone at same time-have only had this issue with voip...

Summary: I am a former Sunrocket customer, I loved their service...both the phone and customer service was wonderful and timely.

I contacted voip and told them about my situation, they said they could help. Took 3 weeks before I finally received my 'router'. My new 'router' turned out to be an adaptor and I was then told I had to purchase a new router and would be given 45 dollars in credit. That I was told I would not recieve now, b/c of a meeting they had that Saturday that says they will not give refunds/credits....

Still does not work. I have to use one or the other...Internet or phone...not both. Voip is of NO help and they won't send me a router like the one I had with sunrocket, though it is advertised on their website and would solve all my issues.

It's been a nightmare! I do not recommend this company!

Absolutely the WORST!!

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Susan Halm on Tuesday, August 28, 2007
From: Sunny South, SC (United States)
Experience: 2 Weeks
Pros: NONE!

Cons: Router never arrived, so could not use the service; customer service agents lied or hung up on me; promises made but not kept; entire company stinks to high heaven!

Summary: I signed up for yearly service and was duly transferred to VOIP - but my router never arrived, so I could not use the service, and my old company turned off my phone, so I was without phone service altogether. Repeated calls to customer service got me to agents who did not speak good English, who promised me rebates that I was later told would not come, and dates my equipment should show up, and it never did. The worst experience I've ever had with a phone company, bar none!

VoIP - Did you know?

All VoIP calls are carried over the Internet until each call needs to be directed to a regular phone line. This allows you to save a tremendous amount of money on local, long distance, and international calls.
